Learn to play the trumpet from a professional. I have been teaching trumpet for the past 10 years both in Hong Kong and Canada. I have a background in classical music and jazz, employ a wide range of teaching styles, and will guide you through any skill level, from beginner to advanced.
Playing trumpet requires you have an instrument and a mouthpiece, as well as oil, a brush, a metronome and a polish cloth. I can help you to get the right size mouthpiece and a quality instrument to suit your budget. There are many different instrument makers, but in my opinion Yamaha and Bach (pro model only) are the best options.
Like a car, if you don’t take care of it, it will break. The rule of thumb is to oil your trumpet before you play, and try not to miss a day even if you play for few minutes only. It is better to practice 5 minutes a day than for 2 hours once a week.
Equipment alone will not help you play better – you need to put in the hard work and dedication.
The earliest trumpets date back to around 1500 BC. The instrument has evolved somewhat since then, but the essential elements stay the same – music evokes in us something we don’t find any other way. The trumpet is an amazing instrument, and having played it for more than 25 years I’m still learning new things and I still love it. I see it as an extension of the human body because of the way the sound is produced. With a bit of patience and commitment, anyone can learn to play and enjoy the huge rewards that performing music can give. Playing trumpet is nothing more than deep breathing. With a bit of effort and the right instruction you can quickly progress and start to express yourself through the music we all have inside of us.
